Storm Prep NC Style
Preparing for this weekend’s predicted snow doesn't have to be stressful if you get a head start. While the forecast looks chilly, a few quick moves today will keep you warm and cozy once the storm hits.
1. Do a Quick "Draft Hunt"
Before the wind picks up, walk around and check your windows and doors. If you feel a draft, you can quickly seal it with weatherstripping or even a rolled-up towel at the base of the door. If you have exposed pipes in the garage or basement, wrap them in a bit of insulation—or even an old blanket—to prevent a middle-of-the-night burst.
2. Gear Up for Power Outages
Charge your "tech" today—phones, tablets, and those portable power banks. Dig the flashlights out of the junk drawer now so you aren't searching for them in the dark later. If you're planning on using a generator, remember the golden rule: keep it at least 20 feet away from the house to stay safe from fumes.
3. The "No-Cook" Grocery Run
When you head to the store, grab items that don't require a stove or microwave just in case the power flickers. Think protein bars, peanut butter, and plenty of bottled water. Also, double-check that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries—safety first!
